UI/UX Design - Mental Health crisis Support

Project 2 - human factors design

Assignment

Design an app for use in the Health Care space. Conduct user research to identify needs and insights. Utilize interviews and user interactions for prototype feedback.

Approach

After speaking to EMTs, PhD students, graduated Stanford affiliates, former RAs, and other individuals who helped loved ones in mental health crisis, we realized: even trained support people have trouble making decisions around a friends’ mental health.

Perspective

Friends and family of individuals facing mental health crises need a way to decide how and when to reach out to professional help.

Insights

  1. Individuals in crisis often reach out to friends and family before turning to professionals.

  2. Individuals’ preferences for support are inaccessible when incapacitated due to a crisis.

  3. Supporters have a lot of trouble deciding when to go get help, and don’t know to whom to turn.

User Feedback

“I like that it’s easy to use while you’re on the phone with a friend. Like, you can just put it on speaker and scroll through the questions.”
